Why are there only “specialty” items for young mastectomy patients? WHERE ARE THE ZEBRA PRINT ZIP UP BRAS? Where is the lacy lingerie that doesn’t have 8 million hooks and eyes on the back of it? It’s no wonder we have body issues…we look like frumpy old ladies in what we can put on.
Honestly…do bra makers not see the market for this? Plunging neckline sports bras with front-closure so that I can wear a lower cut shirt? It will be MAY APRIL when I will be recovering…what am I going to do? Wear a turtle neck? C’mon Komen…you’ve “pinkwashed” everything else, so why is no one on this?

I feel alone in my outrage, though. Everyone just keeps telling me to deal with it…but I’m almost 30 and single – you try getting laid with a bra like that!

Too true! Glad you are blogging – I have been following your posts on Facebook but never responded because I haven’t really made my BRCA a public thing. Just wanted to let you know that I am also in DC and went through all of this last year when I was diagnosed with breast cancer (I am only 26… damn you BRCA!). I’m here for you and hope all goes well! You are welcome to leave any questions or anything on my own blog, or you can ask for my email and I’ll be happy to give it to you.
I would love to buy you coffee (or tea or whatever) sometime and chat before the surgery (March 27). It’s SO hard to relate to the people who are that much older than I am… and your diagnosis… wow. They’ve found a lot of abnormalities in me, but no cancer yet (although I’m pretty sure once they open me up it’ll be there waiting for me!). Found your blog in BRCA Sisterhood – I am right there with you on this! Those things are uuuugly. We should go into business designing cute/fun ones for young (and young at heart!) ladies who want something a little hotter!
Good luck with your upcoming surgery, btw – I’ll be (hopefully) doing the same within the next year or so assuming they don’t find cancer at my upcoming appointment, in which case I guess I’m getting surgery sooner rather than later. Good old BRCA!

They say that everything happens for a reason, so if they find something, then it was because the universe wanted that bad tissue out of there STAT. The waiting is the hardest part, honestly! If I could have mine tomorrow, I would! I just want it done and to move on with my life… this has been a plague for 5 years now. As far as the tests go, I’ve had a lot of “abnormal” test results but they’ve never explicitly said “it’s cancer”, so I’m just praying that they don’t open me up and find some, but either way, at least we have a great supportive community to feel like we’re not alone! Hope your tests go well!
Krys and Aunt Sandy – you have the right idea! I mean, at least if they have to come up to your chin they should be cheetah print or hearts and start or something — I also read a blog about how ugly hospital gowns are … we could jazz those up too!
Side Note: The guy I’m seeing found me two cute button-in-front bras at Urban Outfitters, but I’m guessing they’re going to be too tight with the swelling… it’s the thought that counts, though, right? 🙂

I actually wrote Victoria Secret about this after my first surgery….Got no respomse, go figure. What about maybe tie-dying them just to get some more color in there =p
